Pizza Dough After Mixing and Kneading

Is there really anything better than pizza? I can eat it pretty much every day for the rest of my life, and I’m just talking about plain, cheese pizza. When you start to explore the versatility of pizza the options become endless. All you need is a  little imagination and some quality ingredients.

No matter what you dream up for your pizzas, they must all start at one place — the dough! It’s the base of every great pizza.

I make this dough at least twice a month, and once you get the hang of the technique you may never buy fresh pizza dough at the supermarket again.

Here are a few of our favorite things…

No, not raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens (we are more of a dog-friendly family anyway)….it’s more like pork fat on crostinis and schnitzel with cabbage.

Aside from the food items, here are a few of our favorite things that we love to use in the kitchen:

Bench Scrape: From peeling off cookie dough from your counter, to cleaning up in one fell swoop, this is a great item to have in your arsenal.

A good quality pizza wheel: We use this to cleanly cut our homemade pizza pies, easily cut pancakes for the kid (I am the WORST knife/fork cutter ever) and chop herbs (works wonders on rosemary).

Pizza Stone: Although pizza’s are typically round, get a square one because you will be able to use it for more things, i.e. baking bread, chicken wings, etc. They also can be used on your grill as well.

Bacon Press: What is worse than curled up, unevenly cooked bacon?!? Nothing I tell you, nothing! That’s why you need one of these. Totally awesome and will make you Master of the Bacon. People will come from all over the world to marvel at your bacon. Or not. You don’t really want strangers in your house anyway.

Chopsticks for beginners: No, our 2 1/2 year old doesn’t use these. The big 6 foot 3 inch, bearded man that resides in our house does (that sounds like there is a strange man living here. There isn’t. It’s just Chris. And he thinks I’m the strange one just to clarify). And he loves them.

Tell us what your favorite kitchen gadget is! We would love to hear from you.
